A solution to the Earth's population growth! – Gliese 581c


















A new planet named Gliese 581c has been discovered by the team of Stéphane Udry of the Geneva Observatory in Switzerland. The discovery was announced on April 24, 2007.

The planet is believed to have the same temperatures & geographical conditions like our home planet Earth.

Characteristics of the planet:

Mass: 1.5 times the mass of the Earth
Radius: 2.2 times the radius of the earth (if it has a rocky surface
1.25 times the radius of the earth (if it is a icy or watery planet)
Age: 4.3 billion years old
Orbit: 7% that of the Earth
Temperature: -3° C / 26.6° F
Tidal Forces: About 400 times as strong as those that the Moon causes on the Earth.

This huge discovery has brought about a sudden boost to the different space discoveries and has also become a new topic of study for astronomers of the world.
This planet will most probably be the aim of future space missions.

If this planet really is like the Earth, most of the Earth's population is likely to transfer to this planet which may reduce the dangerous enviroment-harming disasters such as global warming, ozone layer depletion etc. :)
