Yeerks are here. They are spreading everywhere like an epidemic, trying to take over our planet; right under our very noses These parasitic aliens have enslaved races throughout the universe, destroyed planets and left them barren to add them to their Empire. Now it’s Earth’s turn. Our fate is now going to be decided by teenagers who have been blessed (and cursed) with the power to morph any being (animal) they acquire. This power was gifted to them by the Andalite prince Elfangor as a last resort before he died so that the Earth still has a fighting chance against the Yeerks. Now the 5 animal-morphing “Animorphs” Jake, Marco, Cassie, Rachel and Tobias have to fight a guerrilla war against the alien invaders until Andalite reinforcements arrive.
Anyone they know or care for could now be Yeerk host. Their friends, teachers, parents, policemen or even the neighbour next door could be under the Yeerk mission take over Earth. No one can be trusted.
Danger, deceit, secrecy and lies surround the lives of our heroes as they swear to wage the underground war to save the Earth. As they fight in the war which could determine the fate of the Earth we see how 5 normal teenagers are hurled into a desperate struggle for freedom and how the power, responsibility and danger on their shoulders meld them into warriors.
The titanic strength of an elephant, the speed of a cheetah, to soar like a hawk or hunt like a tiger; the Animorphs morph, using the DNA of the animals around them as their only weapon in their war.
So feel the gripping suspense and action and unleash the beast within as we dive into the world of “Animorphs” and their fight to save Earth. The series which started in 1995 by K.A. Applegate concluded with 60 titles under the franchise in 2001. It still remains a highly popular pre-teen series and is read by millions over the world. It even had a small TV series on the popular kid's channel Nickelodeon. For more information on the series see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animorphs and http://scholastic.com/animorphs
FROM WIKIPEDIA:
The most captivating aspect of this series is the ability to watch as these six "normal" children are shaped and molded by their new, outrageous circumstances, and forced to grow up so quickly in order to fight, and to survive. As time passes and this secret, guerrilla war drags on, the reader sees all the characters (even the enemies) mature and grow in complexity as their battles get harder, their compromises more costly, their morals wavering, and their sanity slipping. K.A. Applegate, in her genius, even has the writing style grow with the characters, as the first book is written by a junior high student worried about making the school basketball team, and the last book is written by a seasoned war veteran who has killed and protected, won and lost, despaired and hoped, and simply made more hard choices than normal people would make in a million lifetimes. THAT is Animorphs.
